Ben Youngs, England’s most-capped male player, will retire from international rugby after the Rugby World Cup tennis
The scrum half will win his 127th cap and make a farewell appearance against Argentina in the bronze medal match on Friday evening at the Stade de France tennis
Youngs has been picked to make his first start of the tournament in England’s final fixture in France tennis
The 34-year-old made his debut in 2010 and has scored 20 tries for his country tennis
England head coach Steve Borthwick, who captained Youngs on the occasion of his first cap against Scotland, hailed the qualities of a four-time Six Nations winner tennis
“Ben has been a tremendous player for English rugby for such a long time,” Borthwick said tennis
“[He’s] our record cap holder tennis
A player who has seen a lot in four World Cup, and who has played an important role within this squad helping the team, particularly Alex Mitchell, progress tennis
He’s a brilliant player and a fantastic team man tennis
”Youngs made his debut as a replacement on the wing against Scotland at Murrayfield in March 2010, before making a first international start at his preferred position of scrum half in June of that year tennis
He has since appeared at four World Cups, and was part of the side beaten by South Africa in the final in 2019 tennis

Youngs was picked by four different England coaches (Martin Johnson, Stuart Lancaster, Eddie Jones and Borthwick) and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2013 alongside brother Tom tennis
The 34-year-old is contracted with club Leicester Tigers until the end of the season tennis
His retirement follows that of flanker Courtney Lawes, who featured alongside Youngs at Under-18 and Under-20 level tennis

England coach Steve Borthwick is adamant his side will use the pain of their narrow Rugby World Cup semi-final defeat to South Africa to “grow into something brilliant” moving forward tennis
Heading into the clash as heavy underdogs, England executed their kick-heavy gameplan to perfection and impressed at the set-piece to stunningly lead the Springboks at half-time tennis
However, South Africa’s much-vaunted ‘bomb squad’ came off the bench, started to dominate the scrum and the kicking of Handre Pollard led them to a gutsy 16-15 win tennis
Borthwick’s troops far outperformed expectations in the semi-final and although he was devastated to come up just short on the big stage, the coach is convinced the experience will stand his young squad in great stead for the future tennis
“The whole team performance was strong,” said Borthwick in his post-match press conference tennis
“We’re disappointed tennis
We came here with a plan to win the game but fell short tennis
Not far but a little bit short and we’re desperately disappointed tennis
“But the players should be incredibly proud tennis
We had seven players 25 or under in our squad, which was the most of any semi-finalist tennis
South Africa had one tennis
“We have a great blend in the squad and there’s lots to take going forward tennis
We put ourselves in a position to win a semi-final against the reigning world champs and world No 1 tennis
“In adversity, there is normally a seed in there that will grow into something brilliant tennis
It’s too early to find that seed now but we’ll make sure we find it tennis
We’ll take what we’ve gone through tonight, grab it and make sure it makes us stronger in the future tennis
”England were narrowly defeated in Paris (Getty Images)Lock George Martin was a surprise selection ahead of Ollie Chessum but he shone in just his fourth Test start, with his maul defence a particular highlight tennis
And Borthwick is convinced Martin has a bright future, while also highlighting the superior cohesion that the Springboks have after a longer period together as a coaching staff tennis
“I thought he [Martin] played really well,” added Borthwick tennis
“There were a good number of outstanding performances out there tennis
George is another young player, only 22 tennis
I would hope to see him in England shirt for many years to come tennis
“We were playing against a team with coaches together since 2018 tennis
It was an incredible achievement for them to win in 2019 and they have had four years of continued development tennis
“They’re consistent whereas we’ve had four months with this coaching team tennis
I’ve asked the players to approach training and the game in a different way; for the players to be willing to change is all credit to them tennis
Tonight was another example of that tennis
